The Maltese community established a very good connection and were the main financial contributors to the Catholic parishes of Wentworthville and Pendle Hill, as the early Maltese made these suburbs their home. Wentworthville and Pendle Hill (later known as Greystanes) are adjoining suburbs in Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia located about 27 kilometres from Sydney CBD and are part of the Greater Western Sydney Region. In our issue 314 of January 2024, Mark Caruana OAM, the President of the NSW Maltese Past Pupils of Don Bosco, announced the dissolution of this organisation that was formed in 1972. It has raised an average of $10,000 annually for the Don Bosco missions. In his last message, Mark Caruana said that though the association no longer exists, the spirit and charisma of Don Bosco will continue. On Sunday 14th January 2024, members of the Maltese Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco NSW Inc. met at the Wenty Leagues Club in NSW. At the AGM held on the 5th November 2023, a management committee could not be formed. This meant a dissolution of our association, which needed an endorsement by a special meeting, in accordance with the requirements of an incorporated association. To understand how significant is the Feast of Our Lady of Victories in the Illawarra area we need to go back to 1973. It is recorded in the history of the St Francis of Assisi parish church that the Scerri family donated the statue which was hand carved by an Italian artist Vincenzo, welcomed by Fr.
