Vale John Attard

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of John Attard 1936-2024 of Greystanes NSW. John was born in Ħal Balzan and emigrated to Australia in 1956.  He married Doris Turner at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Wentworthville in December 1966 and had three children. John’s family has a long association with the Maltese community, especially the Phoenician Club and the Melita Eagles FC.  John and his father Ġużeppi served as directors of Melita Eagles for many years.   He was a gentle man and well-respected by all.  Rest in Peace John. Sr Grace Cini of the Franciscan sisters of the Heart of Jesus passed away in Adelaide S.A. on the morning of Saturday 10th February 2024, feast day of St Paul Shipwreck to Malta. She came to Warrawong, NSW Australia in 1964 and spent 53 years at the Warrawong Our Lady of Fatima convent then 5 years at the Port Kembla St Joseph convent.  Sr Grace was a primary teacher at St Francis of Assisi Catholic school in Warrawong, NSW.  She taught many of the post WWII migrant children and assisted many Maltese families to settle in Australia. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Emanuel Grima on the 3rd of January 2024 who would have been aged 81 years in August of this year, in Malta. Emanuel was the first graphic designer of The Voice of the Maltese (Leħen il-Malti) in 2013 and was active in the Maltese community in NSW during the period 1963-2017. Emanuel Grima was born in Għajnsielem, Gozo in August 1943. Since early childhood, graphic arts have held a fascination for him. During the month of December 2023, the Maltese community in NSW, especially the football fraternity, lost two veteran stalwarts; 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗹 (𝗟𝗲𝗹𝗶) 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗱 - 𝟭𝟵𝟯𝟰-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 Emmanuel entered the Lord’s presence on December 8, 2023, at the age of 88 years. A life member and dedicated servant to the Maltese and footballing community, Emmanuel joined Melita Eagles in 1962 and was immediately appointed Assistant Secretary. Vale Mary Deguara 1932-2023

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mary, the wife of Gejtu (Guy) Deguara, ex-Vice President of the Maltese Community Council of Victoria and St Gaetan Society of Melbourne. Mary passed away on the 10th August 2023 at Royal Melbourne Hospital. She was born in Marsa on 14th October 1932 and emigrated to Australia in 1954. She married Gejtu Deguara in Melbourne on 26th July 1958. Sadly missed by her husband, son John, daughter-in-law Pam, grandchildren Renae and Leigh, family and friends. Rest in Peace.

Vale Carmen Cachia 1942-2023

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Carmen Cachia of St Julians, Malta, beloved wife of Herbert Cachia who she married in Sydney 7th April 1972. She passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital in Malta. She was born 9th April 1942 during wartime at Qormi, daughter of Romeo & Maria Meli (deceased). She migrated in 1949 but returned to Malta 2001. Carmen will be sadly missed by her beloved brother Frank Meli, sister Marlene Dimech of Sydney, nephews and nieces and all the extended families and many friends. Forever in our heart. Rest in Peace.

NSW. Michael was married to Maria Mula on 6th June 1965. Simon Crean, Labor long-serving politician for the district of Hotham, died aged 74 years in Berlin, Germany where he was part of an industry delegation. He will be remembered as one of the architects of the Hawke government's momentous industrial relations reforms of the 1980s and one of the most significant political figures of modern Labor.
