SK Sigma Olomouc claim Tipsport Malta Cup 2024

A one-goal difference decided the winners of the 2024 International Tipsport Malta Cup. It was a close victory, as three clubs finished with the same number of points, five. 

The title on the final day of the event’s sixth edition went to Czechoslovakia’s SK Sigma Olomouc following their scoreless draw with FK Austria Wien. The other Czechs, FC Hradec Králové, shared the runner-up position after beating Spartak Prague 2-1. 

Before the final matchday, the first three could all win the trophy, and in the end, they all finished with the same number of points. However, Olomouc had the best aggregate score, and whereas all finished with three goals scored, they only conceded one as against the others’ two. Spartak finished pointless.

The duel between Sigma Olomouc, currently fifth in the Czech Liga, and Austria Wien, eighth in the Austrian Bundesliga, was decisive. The match was evenly balanced, but few scoring opportunities were created and no goals were scored. Ultimately, the draw favoured Olomouc as they had the best overall score.

In the other match, Hradec Králové Hradec Králové registered their first win in the tournament by defeating Spartak Trnava 2-1. Daniel Vašulín put Hradec Králové ahead after 19 minutes and Daniel Horák doubled the score after 56 minutes. Marco Djuričin pulled one back for Spartak Trnava in the 65th minute.

The toss of the coin by the tournament promoter Helmut Amhof decided the runner-up position It favoured Austria Wien. Hradec Králové finished third.
