Man. U. women’s team manager lauds real collective spirit and excellent facilities after training camp in Malta

Following the team’s formidable performance in their latest 5-0 Adobe FA Cup victory over Newcastle United, a delighted Manchester United women’s manager, Marc Skinner, partly attributed their victory to the team’s successful five-day winter training camp in early January in Malta.

The Reds’ training camp, which included a high-profile friendly match against PSV Women, which they won by 2-1, came ahead of the second half of their league season. It allowed the players to get together after the winter break. Skinner said it was something that they were very privileged to be part of. They used the occasion “to get ourselves together” ahead of the big second half of the season for them.

“I thought it was a key factor in our success in the second part of last season. For us, it’s not just the weather; the facilities are excellent,” the manager said.

He added: “There is something special about the island. There is a real collective spirit about the island, not just the perfect weather for us. It’s a fantastic place.”

Skinner said that camps like this can invigorate the players and help them feel good going into the next steps. “We can all know tactics and prepare tactically, but it’s [also about] the feel-good factor of the players.”

The Manchester United women’s team events were supported by VisitMalta.
